The Importance of Breakfast

As students, we have a lot of activities that we have to complete every day, such as studying. We must have a strong and fresh brain to permeate any subjects that we learn and many things that we studied earlier. But we must be wondering, how can we get a capable and intelligent brain? Based on some interview data we collected a few days ago, we found out that most of our friends don’t eat breakfast in the morning. So that made us motivated to write this article.

Sometimes as students, we forget one thing that is very important to do, which is breakfast. Breakfast provides energy that makes our brains fresh. If we have a fresh brain, we have enough energy and feel more excited to live the day. But there are still many students who said that breakfast is not that important, because some said that they’re on a diet. They don’t want to get fat because they have breakfast. But is it true that breakfast can have an impact on our diet? In Dr. Alberta Jesslyn Gunardi from KlikDokter’s opinion, that’s not correct. Breakfast doesn’t have an impact on diet. Otherwise, breakfast precisely will decrease weight. Because if we already have breakfast, we don’t have to starve to death and eat plenty of food at lunch. Skipping breakfast makes the bodywork in the morning without an energy supply and uses the remaining energy available. As a result, the need for energy will swell at lunchtime, so the whole plan of diet will lead to an eradication. Besides that, what are the reasons why breakfast is important?

Firstly, breakfast helps improve concentration and focus. After a night’s sleep, our bodies have been fasting for several hours, causing a drop in blood glucose levels. Eating a nutritious breakfast can help replenish glucose levels, which is essential for brain function. Secondly, A good breakfast can increase the production of serotonin, a hormone known as the happiness hormone. Studies have shown that a nutritious breakfast can increase serotonin levels, leading to a 20% improvement in mood. This hormone plays an important role in regulating mood and reducing the risk of depression. Finally, breakfast provides essential nutrients that the body needs daily, such as fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Dr. Mark Hyman, a renowned functional medicine physician, states “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it kick-starts your metabolism, provides essential nutrients, and sets the tone for healthy eating throughout the day.” A balanced breakfast that includes fruits, whole grains, and protein can provide these nutrients, which support overall health, including heart health and immune function.

Let’s have breakfast!

In conclusion, breakfast is crucial for maintaining optimal energy levels, mental focus, and overall health. The benefits of eating a nutritious breakfast far outweigh the perceived advantages of skipping it. Therefore, making time for a healthy breakfast should be a priority for everyone to support both physical and mental well-being throughout the day (Dilovessa Azzahra Andromeda and Hanunnisa Nurzahra Putri Diar)
